Privacy Policy

PreviewMD is a native Markdown editor and viewer for macOS, iPadOS and iOS. It is built to run entirely on your device. PreviewMD does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data.

Your documents

The Markdown files you open stay on your device. They are read, rendered, edited and exported locally. PreviewMD never uploads your files or their contents anywhere, and it keeps no copy of them beyond the document you opened.

The Diff view compares your document against a snapshot taken when you opened it, against the copy on disk, or against a revision the system already keeps for that file. All three live on your device.

No tracking

The app contains no analytics, advertising, tracking SDKs, or user accounts. It does not build a profile of you and does not use cookies.

Network access

PreviewMD holds the standard network entitlement, because the system component that renders your document (WebKit) requires it even to draw a purely local page. The app makes no requests of its own: it never contacts our servers, and there is nothing for it to send.

One thing does reach the network, and only because your document asked for it. If a document references a remote image or you click a link in it, WebKit fetches that image or opens that link — exactly as a browser would, and only while you are viewing the document. Nothing about you is attached to those requests. A document that references only local files makes no network requests at all.

Files the app can reach

PreviewMD runs in Apple's App Sandbox. It can read the documents you open, images your document references from your Downloads and Pictures folders, and — only if you grant it once, per folder — images kept alongside a document elsewhere. That grant is remembered as a security bookmark on your device and is never shared.

This website

The website at previewmd.xfanta.com uses privacy-friendly, cookieless Vercel Analytics to count aggregate page views. It does not identify individual visitors.

The App Store

PreviewMD is distributed through the App Store. Downloads and any associated account information are handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. We never see it.
